News reading 17- Mike Pence went to an overcrowded and under cared for immigrant detention center. It's a Texas facility that holds about 400 men. When inside, the reporters stated a foul odor and extreme heat. The men were in cages and had been trying to get attention from the reporters to talk about being underfed and not having access to showers and toothbrushes. Some had claimed to be at the center for more than 40 days. VP had seen 384 men sleeping inside fences, on the concrete, without pillows or mats. The center had claimed it's too overpopulated so there's not enough beds for everyone to sleep on, so it only leaves the floor. They had also claimed that the men had regular, daily access to showers and toothbrushes and are fed regularly. I don't exactly know how to feel about which side is right in this case, mainly because I wasn't there, but I also don't understand why Mike Pence would make up such a story if not true. If it is false, that'd draw bad attention and a bad reputation to him for lying about this sort of thing. If what was found out and said is true, then there is something terribly wrong with the people holding the immigrants. Having them sleep on concrete floors without pillows or mats? Not letting them shower or brush there teeth on the daily? And not being fed regularly? The type of people working there and the type of people allowing this to happen and not doing anything about it are disgusting. I don't get how another person can be so cruel and horrible to another. The stuff described in the article I read is ugly. Prisons, detention centers, any place that holds people for certain reasons, should not be a place of disgust. Yes, the people there might have done something wrong, but that's no reason to treat them inhumanely. People are people and deserve to be treated as they still are, no matter what they've done or where they are.
